Our History
In 1964 St. Jude Thaddeus Mission was formed for Leon Springs area Catholics. Mass was served in the old “Smith House” by Father Henry Hilscher of Boerne. In 1964 Father Charles Grahmann, later Bishop of Dallas, assumed the responsibilities of the new Mission and remained for five years. Two successive pastors, Father Quintana and Father Edward Bily served through 1974. In 1975, under the direction of Father Peter O’Callaghan, a small group of dedicated families gave of themselves for the benefit of the community. In 1976 their efforts were rewarded when the mission received full parish status under the new name of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, affectionately labeled SEAS. Over the next two decades strong leadership and the vision of three continuous pastors kept the momentum shifting upwards. By 1986 it became evident additional space was needed. The parish purchased 25 acres of land along Cross Mountain Trail and over time developed plans and organized campaigns to fund the buildings we presently enjoy. As you enter the grounds today, a wooded walking trail provides a quiet place to meditate on the Stations of the Cross. Further down a winding road are the limestone church and office buildings of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, with the parish rectory and Faith Formation Center situated alongside a road behind the sanctuary. Toward the lower portion of the property is a multi-purpose athletic center, a concessions booth and the sports fields. Throughout the beautifully landscaped acreage, paved roads and parking lots have been carefully placed, keeping intact the feeling of warmth provided by nature. A drive to the upper section of the acreage brings you to Casa de Padres. There you will find the homes of retired priests. We are blessed that many of these very experienced priests continue to be a vibrant part of our parish community, leading Masses, interacting with the congregation and attending other church activities. Today the church flourishes and a giving spirit lives on as our families practice stewardship and care deeply for the parish. SEAS welcomes all new members and encourages their participation in the community.
